When you have a rather competitive nature, it can be hard to set a good example of being a good sport. How do you take a deep breath and take a step back outside of yourself to set a good example for your child?

Amy - what a great question! I so can relate... because both Greg and I are competitive. Don't get me wrong, we are each others biggest supporters, but if we are playing a board game, for example, we are cutthroat. He isn't quite as much a sore loser than I am, though. I've really tried to work on this. Because we really do want Cody to focus on whatever it is he is participating in (having fun, socializing, learning, etc.), not just winning. So far any activities or sports he has been in, for the most part, have been great about not placing too much of an emphasis on being #1. So I'm interested in hearing from other moms (and dads) on how they keep a healthy balance in teaching their kids about good sportsmanship.
