I'm a bit of a ninny, so a little worried about the swine flu. I know they say the swine flu is just as dangerous as the common flu, but I still worry. There hasn't been that many pandemics for us to know the true ins and outs of this flu.

When it first came out, I thought, we are home schooling from here on out. Okay, I over reacted. When it first came out recently, I talked to the school and they premitted the kids to take trail size anti bacterial to school. I taught my children how to use properly, even thought they used it before, but prior to this they used it under my supervision.

With that said, if I find out that one has swine flu in my childrens contact, I will keep them out of school. The school won't be happy with me, but Ive disclosed to them how I feel regarding this. A few of us have asthma, and other health issues. The few of us take longer to get better, so that's my mom duty, I suppose. I hope I helped some, but agian, Im a known ninny.

I don't like to take any chances with my kids.  But I have to admit I feel the media is manipulating.  They run their programming based on fear. (Remember the bird flu?) That is not how I want me or my children to live.

My kids are strong and healthy.  They know how to wash their hands, and I give them a water bottle instead of having them use a drinking fountain.  In our prayers every morning we pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us and protect us.  I chose to live in joy and not fear.

I am also very concerned about Swine Flu. I think that the media is using it, as they always do, to fill programming, but I also saw that article recently with estimations of up to 50% of the population contracting the virus. It also indicated that this flu seems to hit children and young adults hardest, so I am not sure what I will do. I have a daughter who trends toward pneumonia when she gets sick, but I also am concerned about the fast-tracking of the shot itself. What are the long-term repercussions of the shot ingredients, and will they outweigh the benefits. And what if I guess wrong and it's too late? Yeah, the mom guilt is in overdrive. Need a crystal  ball.

Donna, I hear you. And in this particular predicament the "mom blogosphere" may be they only way we get to a decision we have confidence in. I feel a bit on my own on this one; in the past I have had confidence in an authority figure's opinion; this time around, whether it be the Nancy Snyderman on NBC, or the doctor on ABC, or Dr. Oz these all seem to be celebrities who are pushing forward the scripts they are handed. I caught a video on Youtube last night from one of the doctors from the CDC on this topic; you would think it would put me to rest. It did not for one simple reason: comments had been disabled. Why? It makes me suspicious. Why are they afraid of comments? In so many other realms of healthcare I have a lot of confidence, and am a big supporter of many initiatives, including electronic health records, and health care reform, because I see definite positives. But for this one initiative I feel let down.

It seemed like the clearest representation of the actual vaccine yet. And I learned a new word, adjuvent, which I had had no idea about. Follow @ImmunizeCOKids for the latest on all vaccine news. She always has interesting vaccine articles, and that's where I found the one I posted. I hope that we both get enough clarity to determine, with confidence, what we want to do.

I am nervous about swine flu, but with a husband who rides a train and then subway to work in Manhattan four days a week, keeping my kids out of school will not mean they will not get it.  My sister-in-law is an MD and she is nervous because it should have not affected people in the summer- most flu's die down in the summer.  If you are not immuno compromised, you should be able to fend it off- like any other flu.  Unfortunately for me and my guys, 2 of us have asthma and the other severe allergies (which for immunity issues is the same link as asthma.)  The very old, very young, and immuno compromised are at greatest risk- but most of them do not die from it!  I am concerned but not nervous.  My nervousness will not prevent anyone from getting it, but it can make others in my family nervous and cause their immune system to be compromised by stress.
So, don't worry, be happy!  This is the best advice I have.  I don't think i helped much but I hope I helped someone.

Great Video ! I am a little worried about swine flu. I am advicing my children to wash hands regularly. I really dont know what else to do.
