Amy- I have felt your pain!!  My son, who is 3 1/2 was just potty-trained last month.  I was thinking he would NEVER get it!  One day last month I told him this was the day he stopped wearing diapers and from that day on he has gone to the potty for both types of potty breaks!
  
I finally realized he was not going to do this until HE was ready and it just so happened that he finally was.  I knew that he would one day get it.  I did begin stressing a little when he turned 3 and had no interest, but it worked itself out.  

We tried and tried all spring, but I finally just stopped trying in May altogether.  We had the break and in June we started again and he finally got it, but again I stress that HE was ready.  I had been ready a long time ago!!

Also, I kept thinking about how easy it was for my daughter.  Two days and we were done.  Completely.  I know they say boys are harder and I believe it!  I am sure your son will get it just as soon as he is ready!!  

Good luck!  It is great not to buy diapers anymore!!

Not exactly a nightmare story, but I do have to agree with Stacie -- the kids will do it when they're ready and not a moment sooner.  There's no real reason to push it unless he can't get into pre-school without being trained.  Both of my kids basically trained themselves -- I'm more of a casual observer and tushie wiper than anything.
