As a mother to a somewhat shy child, I've always tried to do things that will help my son... come out of his shell. He isn't as shy as he use to be; and definitely not crippling shy. He will speak when spoken to and will participate if he feels confident.
He has been taking a Drama class one evening a week - which has really helped. In fact, yesterday he had his first audition at a local Children's Theater. We don't expect him to get a part. We just want him to have the experience. But he wasn't nervous at all... and actually had a great time. It did help that one of his best friends tried out too.
So for all the parents that have shy or maybe just more quiet or reserved kids, what tips and/or ideas can you share with us in helping us to encourage our children to be more assertive or to come out of their shell and be all that they can be?
