We recently implemented chore charts in our home. This way our kids know what their responsiblities are and when they are expected to be done.

I will openly admit - in front of God and everyone that the absence of Chore Charts in my home has been my Achilles' heel in parenting. Ouch! In spite of my overall strengths as a mom and my good intentions to create a chore chart, I didn't implement one while I was raising my four daughters. In hindsight, I really wish I had. Although my girls did what I asked them to do around the house with little or no resistance ... I did hear a bit of griping along the way when each of them was feeling that their sisters weren't doing as many chores as they were. A Chore Chart would have proven otherwise! Great topic today, Stacie. For all you Moms out there ... USE A CHORE CHART!

Melanie - I don't use a chore chart (yet) either. I will have to say, having one child is a bit easier to handle the whole chore thing. But I need to implement one for scheduling purposes if nothing else. So he will no when he needs to have a chore done. Good idea Stacie!

Hey Donna ~ In general, I believe any kind of organizational tool for managing a home and a family is a great idea - chore charts included. A simple wall calendar hanging in my kitchen has kept me on track throughout the years. And I've seen some moms who use wonderful online tools like AirSet. Hope you're having a smooth-sailing Sunday! ~Melanie

Hi Melanie! Thank you for your response! So far, this has been a great tool! Having a chart with their name on it and a chore beside it makes it seem like it is not really questionable. They see it and know it is their responsibility. I really like it so far!

I used to do the chore chart, but having a large family it becomes more time consuming these days. I do 15 minute clean-ups. We set a timer for 15 minutes or less, and run around like mad and clean like we are out of control.Music helps Then I only have to do the deep cleaning. This works well with 2 or more children. We stop on the timer chime no matter what. After a few days you will notice that you dont even need a full 15 minutes. We do rooms last, if time permits. Within a few days its routine and the house stays clean. Always good to do just as dad comes home... Then he thinks the house was clean all day. It works. It's nice to not have an overwhelming task, and all work together... More detailed instructions if interested reedwhatmatters.com/.../

Jennifer - I guess with so many kids you learn to get creative... what a great idea. And doing it "just before dad comes home" literally made me lol.

Hi Stacie, No I do not use a chore chart. But my kids know their daily chores and they have easy chores like garbage and laundry pick up. For when the garbage goes on the curb, it's the same every week, so it is really easy for us. The 15 minutes clean-up is agreat tool I saw on flylady.com an excellent resource for people who want a clean house without all the work... Have a wonderful day, Cindy
